I read every book, and craft bespoke questions for each interview.

Additions to the Archive Substack (posting 1-3 Q&A interviews per month): I maintain a free-by-design Substack where I speak with authors, activists, and thinkers about passion projects, side hustles, and other areas of interest and expertise.

Black Lit Crit Newsletter (posting 5-6 issues per month): The best in Black literary criticism, delivered every week alongside interviews with authors, critics, editors, and publishers, as well as the first of its kind Black Critics Directory.

Adoption Pop! podcast (posting 4-5 episodes per month): I am the Co-Creator/Producer/Host and Writer of the Adoption Pop! podcast, which examines adoption tropes in popular media. The show is in the top 25% of all podcasts globally, with downloads in 25 countries, accessible via Apple Podcasts and Spotify, as well as on YouTube.

Interviews and Criticism: Authors pour their hearts and souls into their books. My aim is to treat them and their work with that same reverence and care in my interviews and criticism, including reading cover-to-cover the current work of every author I interview.

I am passionate about books for, by, and about Black people in which history plays an important part. This includes academic texts, narrative nonfiction, biography, criticism, essays, historical fiction, and poetry. I do not cover memoir or authors’ family stories (absent crossover with one or more of the genres above). While I write and interview for a variety of outlets, you can find a representative sample of the books I gravitate towards at my podcast, Additions to the Archive with Sullivan Summer.

I typically work on a 10-12 week lead time.

Contest and Awards Judging: I read over 100 books a year across genres and, as such, have a keen eye for storytelling. I have served as a contest and awards judge for various publishers and literary organizations in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

In Person Presentation and Moderation: Drawing on my pre-literary life as a media-trained, corporate executive, I have experience presenting to groups of up to 1,000 people, and am available for in-person presentations and moderation in and outside of the New York City area, where I reside.
